Exploration Sites is a data-driven design agency, who specializes in the development of investor-focused material for the mining and mineral exploration industry. We make maps, corporate presentations and other marketing materials as well as create, host, and manage websites for over one hundred publicly traded mineral exploration and mining companies.
We are expanding and, in that process, we are looking for a motivated and creative digital cartographer and/or geoscientist to join our team. The chosen candidate will be responsible for data management and technical knowledge that contributes to creating beautiful maps, figures, and presentations for our clients through use of a variety of software. This is an in-person entry-level position, with the intention of working towards the role of GIS cartographer and Project Manager. Training will be included.
Skills & Competencies:
- General understanding of the mineral exploration and the mining industry.
- Experience working with large, technical data sets.
- Proficiency with GIS software (MapInfo, QGIS, Leapfrog) and Microsoft Office (Excel), and preferred experience with Adobe products (emphasis on Photoshop/Illustrator).
- Excellent organizational skills and effective communication skills, with an eye for design.
- A Bachelor's degree (or nearing completion) in GIS, Geomatics, Earth Science, or Geology is preferred.
The ideal candidate would possess knowledge and experience with Geology as well as Cartography, but we encourage applications from individuals who possess skill and experience in either category.
Cartography Skills:
- Competency or familiarity with GIS software such as MapInfo, QGIS, and/or Leapfrog
- The ability to use, modify and edit geospatial data across platforms
- Experience designing and compiling maps
- Understanding and experience with coordinate systems
- Understanding Adobe Photoshop, After Effects, or Premier for creating digital and print media
Geology and Data Management Skills:
- Basic understanding of rock types, deposit types, and economic commodities and the ability to apply basic geologic understanding and interpretations
- Basic understanding of drill hole databases, drill programs and geologic models
- Experience managing large data sets in geospatial and database format including the ability to compile, edit, modify, and apply quality control measures for geochemical data such as:
- Drill hole databases
- Soil, rock, and silt geochemistry
- Familiarity with Geophysical results
- Familiarity with the mineral exploration sector and publicly traded companies
Relevant Skills/Experience:
- An eye for graphic design
